As part of the ongoing upgrade of London's transport infrastructure, Victoria station is undergoing upgrades in order to cope with London's commuter congestion.
Alan Auld Engineering Ltd (AAE) was responsible for the design of both permanent and temporary works for the development of a new fire fighting tunnel and cross passage between two live station tunnels. AAE detailed a traditional temporary timber support to the excavation, with the tunnels braced with steel props in the short term, this allowed the permanent works to be installed. Steel square works were used to support the opening of the fire fighting tunnel and utilised in both the temporary and permanent stages of support, with a final composite solution used to increase the centres of the steel square work frames by using the concrete to provide additional strength to the structure.
Design support was supplied to the on-site team throughout the construction phase in order to accommodate site conditions into the design.
