I joined Alan Auld Engineering Ltd as an undergraduate student in my 2nd year of a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Initially I was hoping to gain some experience in the design office over the summer as an Engineering Assistant and I was fortunate enough to be asked to stay on as a Graduate Design Engineer upon the completion of my degree. I am now a Design Engineer and work as a part of a team on a variety of projects in the UK and overseas. My career has continued to develop during my time at Alan Auld Engineering and I have written a paper which is now published and has been presented at conferences internationally. Alan Auld Engineering Ltd is an organisation always open to professional development and is supporting me in working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers. They have also supported me through my PRINCE 2 Practitioner qualifications. The most interesting part of my job is the variety of projects I get to work on. I’m always busy and challenged on a daily basis.
'I first joined Alan Auld Engineering Ltd on a summer placement during my degree course at Leeds Metropolitan University. Joining the company during my studies helped me put in to perspective much of what I was learning and apply it to real world problems, and since having come to work here I have gained a much deeper knowledge of the design and construction of underground structures, particularly in regards to a specialist approach to their buildability and construction sequencing. The Alan Auld Group of companies is a friendly and helpful working environment which maintains an open mind towards professional development.”
“I joined Alan Auld Engineering Ltd after doing a seven week summer placement during the third year of my degree at the University of Sheffield. Subsequently, I was then given the opportunity to do my Master’s dissertation on the Jansen Potash Mine Shaft in Canada, which at the time was one of the company’s biggest projects. During my time at Alan Auld Engineering Ltd I have been given first hand site experience at the ISME Salt Mine in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, which gave me insight in to how our designs are implemented during the construction phase of a project. Throughout my time working for Alan Auld Engineering Ltd I have felt valued and appreciated and have been regularly asked for my personal thoughts and feedback on how the company is doing. The Alan Auld Group is a friendly and supportive place to work and is always open to providing opportunities for the personal and professional growth of its employees.”
“I originally joined Alan Auld Engineering Ltd in July 2013 as an Assistant CAD Technician while studying for my HNC at City College, Sheffield. The company funded my course and since joining I have progressed from Assistant to CAD to CAD Technician, and I will be going back to College, in the near future to obtain my HND. During my time at Alan Auld Engineering Ltd I have been given the opportunity to work on many exciting projects such as Bank Station, Bloomberg Place, Vauxhall Temporary Access Shaft and Bond Street Station. Furthermore, apart from the use of programs such as AutoCAD, I have been involved with helping senior members of the team introduce new programs such as AECOSIM/Microstation, Projectwise and the implementation of BIM. The Alan Auld Group is a positive environment to work in, communication is encouraged and help can be sought from all members of the company no matter their position in the company hierarchy.”
